The IBB Golf and Country Club in Nigeria is set to host an exhilarating Independence Day golf tournament from September 25 to October 1, with over 100 foreign golf stars and approximately 400 Nigerian players participating in the prestigious event.

This annual golf festival has become the country’s single-largest golf tournament, celebrating unity, talent, and excellence on the picturesque fairways of one of Africa’s finest championship golf courses.
In an unprecedented move, this year’s tournament is expected to attract some of the world’s most talented golfers, cementing its reputation as a premier global golfing event. The organizers anticipate an audience of over 100 million viewers, both nationally and internationally.
“For the first time in its storied history, the Independence golf tourney will see the participation of four countries, welcoming approximately 100 foreign players to the course,” remarked IBB Club Captain, Banjo Obaleye.
Obaleye also highlighted the tournament’s growing prestige and the remarkable condition of the golf course, thanks to cutting-edge machinery that is a first in Nigeria’s golf history.
Breaking from tradition, this year’s tournament promises an unforgettable experience for both players and sponsors alike.
Although the IBB International Golf and Country Club is not formally affiliated with international golf bodies, the pursuit of global recognition remains a key objective.
Ibrahim Babayo, Chairman of the Independence Cup Organising Committee and the Club’s Vice Captain, affirmed, “The Club will continue to carefully forge strategic partnerships with overseas golf clubs and work to propel the Independence Golf Tourney into the ranks of the world’s top 20 tournaments.”

Founded in 1987, the IBB International Golf and Country Club has grown into a symbol of prestige, unity, and accomplishment. With some of the finest Bermuda tuff dwarf greens, it is recognized as a championship golf course and a top contender in Africa.
The sitting president of Nigeria has traditionally been the grand patron of the club. President Bola Tinubu has been specially invited to the grand finale on October 1, which will draw some of the country’s most influential individuals and golfers.
