Outside Stadium: Ogun Hosts SAPZ Strategic Workshop to Accelerate Agricultural Transformation

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, has emphasized that the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) initiative is a key part of the state’s commitment to accelerating agricultural industrialization and fostering growth in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the SAPZ Programme Strategic Implementation workshop in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Hon. Owotomo noted that the workshop aimed to bring together key stakeholders nationwide to plan for the 2025 implementation phase of the programme.

The event focused on strategies for fast-tracking the SAPZ’s rollout through effective planning, capacity building, and team collaboration.

Hon. Owotomo expressed confidence that the workshop’s collaborative approach would unlock the full potential of the SAPZ, fostering a more vibrant future for Nigeria’s agricultural sector.He also thanked the National Coordination Office, financial partners, and the participating states—Kano, Kaduna, Kwara, Cross River, Imo, Oyo, Ogun, and FCT—for their unwavering dedication to the programme.

“Ogun State is fully committed to providing a conducive environment for fruitful deliberations, and we are confident that this workshop will result in actionable plans that will accelerate our collective efforts to transform agriculture in 2025 and beyond,” Owotomo stated.

Mrs. Temitope Olayiwola, Financial Controller of SAPZ, commended Ogun State for its dedication and efforts in ensuring the programme’s success. She highlighted that SAPZ is a game changer for food security, with goals including the establishment of industrial hubs, provision of agricultural inputs, and the training of smallholder farmers to reduce post-harvest losses.

Participants, including Mr. Ariyo Ezekiel from Kwara and Mrs. Gloria Oghan from Cross River, expressed their belief that the workshop would help them better fulfill their roles in the successful implementation of the programme.
