National Sports Festival female taekwondo gold medalist, Uzoamaka Otuadinma has declared that she wants to retain her top spot at this year’s edition in Abuja.
Sports247.ng can report that Otuadinma will be heading to the FCT for the 2018 sports festival with a belief that she can keep her title in the taekwondo event.
The African women’s taekwondo champion will represent Delta State at the festival next month in Abuja, ahead of which she disclosed that she has stepped up preparation and is in top shape to clinch gold.
Otuadinma declared: “My expectation is to go and claim my title back because this time around, it is not going to be easy.
“To be a champion is very easy but to remain champion takes a lot of hard work.
“So, I am going to Abuja to hold on to the gold medal I won in Lagos in 2012. But it is not by my power but by God’s grace.
“I am expecting more from Nigeria sport sectors but to me I think taekwondo has improved technically.
“The way at which the taekwondo event is been organised since the inauguration of the new board is better than what it was.
“We all know on time what we are expecting when it comes to championship from December this year till last quarter next year.
“With what the new board has put in place and the quality the athletes have acquired, I think Nigeria has hope at the 2019 African Games.
“The athletes are hungry for victory and exposure ahead of the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.”
