Osun United again bowed to the Shooting Stars of Ibadan 0-1 to crash out of the AITEO/FA Cup round of 64, sports247.ng can report
The lone goal which separated the two sides was scored by Isiaka Mutiu in the 84th minute of the highly explosive encounter played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to Tajudeen Ahmad, the Omoluabi Giants started the game with spirited efforts and hit the back of the net within 3 minutes by Gafar Olafimihan but the goal was ruled for offside by the AR2.
While the Oluyole Warriors were making use of their heights with several attempts by Rasheed Ahmed, who was denied by Anderson Okekem, Omoluabi Giants were confident in the midfield with a tip-tap exchange of passes by Chinedu Emmanuel, Emmanuel Peters together with Alhaji Rasaq while Abimbola Mojeed was doing the rough work.
The moves by Okeji together with Chinedu produced a free kick in the 25th minute which should have been a goal for United but denied by the woodwork as the first half ended 0-0.
The second half began with equal possession by both sides who couldn’t make any breakthrough until the 85th minute, when substitute Ifegwu Ojukwu’s free-kick was slotted in, from close range by Isiaka Mutiu who benefited from goalkeeper’s mistake.
David Mark was shown a straight red card in the 89th minute for a challenge on referee’s decision.
The result means Oluyole Warriors have progressed to the round of 32 of the FA Cup.
Osun United will return to action next month in the NNL Group B1 with a home game against Giant Brillars of Enugu.
