Osun United Football Club will begin full preparation for the 2020-2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) season on Sunday, October 18, 2020 as the federal government announced the lifting of ban on contact sports after about 6 months of restriction.
The announcement was made today October 15, 2020 at the briefing by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
A statement by the Office of the Minister of Youth and Sports explained that “sequel to the reduction in the cases of COVID-19 across the federation, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) have announced the re-opening of Contact sports after being placed on ban for five month.”
Reacting to the development, President of Osun United, Chief Ademola Adesina lauded the Federal Government, the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare and all stakeholders involved in the return of contact sports which have been grounded by Covid-19 since March.
“We are happy the rope that unites the world has been brought back after few months of inactivity. This means we can speak the language we all understand like we did before. We are grateful to those who made this happen such as the Federal Government, Ministry of Youth and Sports and even the media.
“As a club, we want to appreciate Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Osun State Ministry of Youth and Sports who have been supporting us. While asking for more, we assure the government that we shall strive hard to take the team to a greater height,” submitted Chief Adesina.
Meanwhile, the club has enjoined all players to report to camp on Sunday, October 18, 2020 as full training begins on Monday at the Osogbo Township Stadium with thorough adherence to the Covid-19 protocol.
