Earlier this year, many of their referees in the NNL and NLO cadres faced suspensions due to allegations of cheating, impersonation, and fake identities.
However, the council is now making a strong comeback, with two of its referees, Omotoye Oluwatosin and Iwaloye Taofeek, successfully listed for the 2024 FIFA MA Course for Young Talents.
Under the leadership of Chairman Toki AbdulFataih Kolapo, the Osun State Referees Council has made significant strides in restoring its reputation and advancing the careers of its members. This turnaround follows the council’s disappointing performance during the Zonal Fitness Test in Benin, Edo State, in September last year.
Omotoye Oluwatosin and Iwaloye Taofeek’s selection for the prestigious FIFA MA Course is a testament to the council’s dedication to nurturing young talent and ensuring rigorous standards in officiating.
Their inclusion in this elite training program not only reflects their personal achievements but also signifies a new era for Osun State referees.
Chairman Kolapo expressed his pride in the council’s progress, stating, “Our focus has been on integrity, hard work, and continuous improvement.
The selection of Omotoye and Iwaloye for the FIFA MA Course underscores our commitment to these values and our determination to elevate Osun referees to the highest levels of the sport.”
The Osun State Referees Council’s success in overcoming recent setbacks and producing top-tier referees is an encouraging sign for the future of football officiating in the region.
As Omotoye and Iwaloye prepare for the FIFA MA Course, their journey serves as an inspiration to their peers and a beacon of hope for the council’s continued resurgence.
