Osimhen Says Turkish Journalist’s Attack Made Him Concentrate Better, Get Hungrier For Goals

Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor James Osimhen has come out with a startling update on a recent face-off he had with a photo journalist near his club’s base in Istanbul, saying it has helped him concentrate better on raining goals for his club.

Sports247.ng reports that, in spite of the heated controversy trailing him, Osimhen netted on Thursday for the third straight match, as he scored a late consolation in Galatasaray’s 2-1 loss away to Ajax Amsterdam of Holland in the UEFA Europa League.

It also came five days after he netted another penalty in last weekend’s 1-0 win against Konyaspor, a week following a similar feat against Hatayaspor, and his latest sizzler apparently confirmed that the Super Eagles’ hitman has not been distracted by his recent off-field spat.

Thursday’s goal also came in the midst of allegations in the Turkish media that the photograph incident might have been deliberately orchestrated by Galatasaray’s rivals to frustrate and distract the in-form striker, who is currently on loan from SSC Napoli of Italy, which within this week sensationally turned down a bif of 65m euros offer tabled to them by Galatasaray for the star’s full transfer in the window that closes this Friday.

However, rather than be cowed by unfolding drama rocking both the social and professional aspects of his life, Osimhen insisted he remains fully focused on banging goals for Gala, even as he gave fresh insights into the genesis of the unfolding controversy.

“I went to an African restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, as we were admiring my friends new car, these guys just showed up with a camera in my face. I asked what they wanted, but they did not respond. They just kept taking pictures,” Osimhen recounted.

He then responded to an allegation that the incident may have been instigated by a top official of Galatasaray’s main rival for the Turkish Super Lig title and fellow-Istanbul-based side, Fernebahce.

“I’m sure this was done to me intentionally. The Turkish journalist harassed me. I’ve never seen anything like it. Which is why I’ll be suing. I’ll like to thank them, though. They’ve made concentrate even more,” said Osimhen, who now has 16 goals and five assists since his arrival in Turkey last summer.

His goal against Ajax on Thursday was his fifth in the Europa League. It put him joint-third on the scorers’ chart with his Gala teammate, Yunus Akgum and Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester. Ayoub El,Kaabi of Olympiskos tops the log with seven goals, followed by Barnabas Varga of Ferencvaros on six.
