Victor Osimhen continued his blistering start to the season with a man-of-the-match performance against Cagliari in Seria A on Sunday.
Osimhen led Napoli to a 2-0 win over the visitors, scoring a first-half opener from a Piotr Zielinski assist before earning a penalty in the second half which Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne converted to ensure the three points.
The Nigerian international has now scored six goals in his last four matches for the Azzurri’s across all competitions including a brace at Leicester City in the Europa League.
The victory over Cagliari powered Napoli to the top of the Serie A table with a perfect record to start the season after six matches.
“It was important for me to start the season well and I want to thank the coach for his confidence in me. I’m honored to play for this club,” the former Lille star said on his fine start to the season after a turbulent first year in Italy.
“Last year I had Covid and then got a bad injury. I’m in good shape this season. I’m training consistently and I’m listening to the advice the coach gives me and the help I get from the team.
“I’m pleased with what I’m doing but I know I need to continue working hard. We all need to continue down this track.”
Napoli and Osimhen will shift their focus to Thursday’s Uefa Europa League visit of Spartak Moscow at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
