Osimhen Prioritises Team’s Success Over Top Scorer Award

Reigning Africa footballer of the year, Victor Osimhen has prioritised the team’s success over personal goals as the players return to training ahead of Friday’s game between Galatasaray and Antalyaspor on Friday in the Turkish Super League, Sports 247 reports.

The Nigeria who ruled out of action for over 4 weeks injury returned to full training with the Galatasaray first team as prepare for the weekend’s game in the league after the international football windows.

In a chat with Galatasaray’s YouTube channel , Osimhen shares his objectives with the club media channel , saying emphatically how the team’s success comes first for him above any other considerations including winning the highest goal scoring award .

The Nigerian forward has two goals to his name since he joined the team, and is lagging behind in the top shot race after firing blanks in his first three games for Galatasaray FC .

Osimhen said he is not in Galatasaray to win the highest goal scorer award when asked to comment on the race for the top scorer award.

“The people that know me know me so well that I am not the kind of player that puts myself before the team”.

“My ambition coming to Galatasaray was not to win the highest goalscorer but of course to contribute to the quality the team already has.”

“I don’t care about being the highest goalscorer in the league. If, it comes, if it happens, it happens but my individual brilliance as well as my teammates is what is paramount for this great club.”

“I just want to add to myself. When I get my opportunities, of course, I want to score. I want to give assists, I want to fight for my teammates, I want to help them in defence and attack just as the coach has instructed me to do.” Victor Osimhen told the club’s TV.

“I’m ready to give my all. The goals are important but to win the highest goalscorer I really don’t care. Even if I win it, the collective success of this club is what is paramount.”

He spoke further on the issue and his respect for Mauro Icardi, his teammate in the team and both of them are combining well to help the team.

“I have great respect for Icardi for what he has done for football and in Galatasaray. He’s a big legend here and we have seen how me and him can really work well on the pitch”, said Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen has six goals contributions since he joined the Galatasaray from Napoli FC on a season-long loan with two goals and four assists .

Besiktas’ Ciro Immobile is currently topping the scoring chart in Turkey with seven goals, with Fenerbache’s Edin Dzeko , İstanbul Başakşehir duo Krzysztof Piatek and João Figueiredo on his heels with five goals each.

Victor Osimhen won the highest goal scorer award in Italy after helping Napoli to win the Scudetto in 2022/2023 season.
