Although Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Victor Osimhen is injured and not available for this Friday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, his spirit will guide his Nigerian colleagues to victory.
This is the verdict of Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, who sports247.ng reports has set his sight on picking all three points in Uyo.
Although Eguavoen acknowledged that Osimhen’s absence would sorely be felt during the game, he interjected that other players would step up to be counted.
Eguavoen reasoned, “It’s a collective effort, not an individual thing. We are in touch with him, and we feel for him, but we have to play without him.
“It’s a huge miss. We all know how important Osimhen can be and the impact he can make, but we have other players who can step into his shos.”
Eguavoen then went philosophical in his assertion of the role Osimhen will still have during the match in absentia, saying: “He’s not here physically, but I am 100% sure that he’s here spiritually with us.”
The team’s former skipper turned gaffer will now bank on Bayer Leverkusen of Germany sensation, Victor Boniface to lead the Eagles’ attack in The Nest of Champions.
Boniface, though, will have to overcome the blushes that saw him struggle for form in the Eagles’ immediate past matches against Benin Republic and Rwands.
