Former Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate believes Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is destined for the Premier League following his display against Liverpool in the Champions League.
Napoli thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Wednesday night. It was a bittersweet evening for Osimhen.
The Nigerian international had a strong start to the game, hitting the post within the first 45 seconds and winning a penalty in the 18th minute he unfortunately missed. He came off with an injury after just 41 minutes.
Osimhen’s performance caught the eye and Woodgate has tipped the former Lille star for a move to England in the near future. He told BBC Sport:
“The two centre-halves will be absolutely delighted to see the back of Osimhen because he’s been so difficult to play against. He’s destined for the Premier League.”
Following the match, Osimhen wrote on Twitter: “Bittersweet feeling for me. Great performance from the whole squad. God is the greatest. We move.”
Osimhen has been diagnosed with a muscle strain in his right thigh. He’ll be out for at least two weeks.
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League during the last transfer window before ending up staying in Naples. According to reports, Manchester United and Arsenal were among the interested parties. He has scored two goals in five Serie A matches this season.
