Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has heaped praise on Victor Osimhen, saying that the Nigerian star has the potential to be the best in the world.
Osimhen is one of the highly-rated young forwards in today’s game. The Napoli striker scored 18 goals last season despite spending almost two months out through injury. He was crowned Serie A’s best young player for the 2021/22 campaign.
Osimhen has already scored five goals in two matches in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers, helping the Super Eagles to a perfect record in Group A. Drogba has revealed he is a huge fan of the young striker and insists that the former Lille star needs momentum to realize his full potential.
“I like him (Osimhen) a lot. Great striker. He can be the best in the world and when you have the talent like he’s got, I think it’s just a question of momentum, ” Drogba told Marco Giordano in an interview.
Osimhen meanwhile, is a huge admirer of Drogba and has stated in countless interviews that he looked up to the Ivorian icon while growing up.
“Didier Drogba, that’s my idol. In every sense of the term. For everything. The man, of course, and also the player he was,” the 23-year-old told France Football in the past.
“I grew up watching him. Still today, I’m addicted to his videos when I’m resting. In my free time, I go on YouTube, I look at his goals, his whole matches when he played in Marseille, Chelsea, and Galatasaray.
“Unfortunately, I have not yet had the chance to meet him. I cannot wait to meet him one day. It would be a moment that would stay in my heart forever. And I would take advantage of it to get advice!”
