Organisers of the Nigeria Premiership have announced Wednesday, 14th of September 2022 as the commencement date for the 2022/2023 season of the Nigeria Women’s Football League(NWFL), Sports247 Nigeria can confirm.
The latest development was announced on the NWFL’s official Facebook on Saturday(today) evening stating that the new season will begin in September with fourteen teams competing in the prestigious championship.
Fourteen teams are divided into two groups, Group A and Group B respectively with each containing seven teams each.
The Group A consist of Heartland Queens, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Niaja Ratels, Delta Queens, Royal Queens and Osun Babes while teams that make up Group B are Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, Ibom Angels, Adamawa Queens, Confluence Queens, Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens.
After the conclusion of the regular season, teams that finish in the top three in each of the two groups in the league will compete in the NWFL Super 6 tournament with matches played in round robin method to determine the champions and Nigeria representative at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League.
