Chairman of Association Proprietors Football Association of Nigeria, APFAN, Lagos chapter, Prince Tunde Alade has called on club owners who have U-10 and 13 categories to register their teams for the ongoing APFAN Soccer League which kicked off last weekend at Alade Sports Stadium, Ipaja, Command, Lagos.
The much-awaited APFAN Soccer League kicked off last weekend with 21 teams in both categories as teams from Alimosho, Mushin, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Oshodi/Isolo, and Ikorodu assembled at Alade Stadium for screening exercise and registration before the commencement of the league.
Alade while addressing Journalists said the APFAN Soccer League was put together by the Lagos chapter to keep the young players busy and discover some hidden talents that may feature Nigeria in under-aged football competitions in nearest future.
Commenting on the teams registered so far, Alade said only a few academies have registered for the league despite the numbers of academies in Lagos noting that the body still needs more academies from another part of Lagos to take part in the ongoing APFAN soccer league.
“We started this league because we have seen a few academies showed commitment. It was a good start for us because matches were played, beautiful goals were scored and officiating was superb.
“I am happy that some players were discovered at the end of the day by our coaching crew but we want to use this medium to tell other academy owners that they can still participate in the league because we still need at least 12 teams in each category,” he said.
Match coordinator, Ojo Oyebode expressed satisfaction with the standard of play by the participating teams saying that the forms are still available for any club owner who is interested in the league.
In U-10 matches played so far, Warrior FC played 1-1 with Utility FC, Grown FA played 0-0 with All-Stars, AGMA lost 0-1 to Golden Talents, while Excell FA played 1-1 with Ilori FA as Utility FA lost 0-2 to Alade FA.
In U-13 category, Alade FA beat B United 2-0, while Marvelous hammered Alade Team B 4-2. The action continues this weekend as the league would enter week two.
