The Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association has begun preparation for the first edition of the U-15 Lanre Razak memorial football competition.
The tournament which kicks off on 26, June would feature 24 teams format.
The competition is sponsored by the Managing Director of Righteous Construction Company, Ibrahim Razak in memory of the late Razak to mark one-year remembrance.
Chairman Organizing Committee, Taofeek Ganiu in a chat with our correspondent said the organizers are working round the clock to make the maiden edition a memorable one. He said a lot of football academies have shown interest in the competition because of the name attached to the tournament.
“Presently we are screening the teams because we have so many teams that are interested and we cannot accommodate less than 24 teams. Aside from this, we have reached an agreement with the certified referees in the state because we want to give all the teams a level playing ground by the weekend, we would send the match fixtures out to the team’s owners and members of the press,” he said.
Ganiu said the tourney is being organized as part of the programmes line up for the one-year remembrance of late Razak.
Meanwhile, the competition would be played at the white sand football pitch, Orile, Lagos, while the closing ceremony would hold on 15, August 2021 at the FIFA legacy football pitch of National Stadium.
