Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) president, Francis Orbih has promised that the country will have a successful hosting and outing at the forthcoming All Africa Senior Badminton Championship.
Sports247.ng gathered that the competition will hold from April 22 to 28 at Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, with Nigeria set to line out six boys and six girls as hosts.
Orbih affirmed that preparations are in top gear, to ensure every is spic-and-span when the competition begins next month, with the players set to enter closed camping before the end of this month.
Orbih, who is also chairman of Lagos State Badminton Association, added that the national body have returned to the drawing board after the 2018 Rivers State Governor’s National Badminton Championship last December in Port Harcourt, and they will perfect loose points this time.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria will host the best continental championship so far for Africa, and enthused that the country’s team would also be able to finish top of the table.
Orbih added: “It’s a major achievement and major development for us, we want to host the best that Africa has ever hosted.
“We are preparing very well (to successfully host, but merely) hosting is not enough for us we want to host to win.
“Our players are already in open camp. We will bring them into camp in Port Harcourt and it will be a closed camp.
“While they are there, the Chinese technical adviser will come meet them up. We have to put up a very good team so we had to start early.
“We are going to make sure we have a very strong team to play the championship and come out victorious.”
