The FC Ebedei Stadium in Apele-Sagamu hosted the tie between the rookies and the professionals; and it was the Oluyole Warriors that edged stubborn Oliseh Boys 2-1, to start their campaign on the right footing.
After a good exchange of string passes and good team transitions from both teams within eight minutes of play, it was Ayobami Adekunle that put 3SC in the front burner to score the first goal of the match with a cool finish a few seconds later.
He should have made it 2-0 in going into the break five minutes earlier after he beat his marker to nod in a cross from Lekan Oderinde but his effort went wide as the first ended a goal to nil to last year’s runner-up.
After an hour and a minute of play, Ebenezer Omihi drew level for FC Ebedei with a lovely low shot from the Oliseh Boys’ first real chance at goal.
Shooting Stars in the 77th minute, then proved why they are a Premier League side as they regained the lead courtesy of a strike from Mustapha Adams.
Gbenga Ogunbote in his post-match chat with Optima Energy Gold Cup Media Channel, “It’s our first game and 3 points. Credit to FC Ebedei as their play didn’t surprise me.
The team has a collection of good players, the lads are young and hungry as they want to make a mark for themselves when they play against topflight teams.
“We have crossed the FC Ebedei hurdle, the focus now is on the game against Niger Tornadoes on Matchday 2.”
The Oluyole Warriors lead the Group B log with 3 points, followed by Niger Tornadoes and Tradesafe FC with a point each after they played out a 1-1 draw in the morning fixture.
