In an electrifying semi-final clash at the 12th edition of the Optima Energy Gold Cup 2024, Beyond Limits Academy triumphed over FC Ebedei with a narrow 1-0 victory, securing their place in the final for the second consecutive year.
The highly anticipated Ogun State derby, held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, lived up to its billing, with both teams delivering a tense and closely contested match.
The decisive moment came just before halftime, in the 44th minute, when Beyond Limits’ star player, Kparobo Arierhi, delivered a moment of brilliance.
With his back to goal, Arierhi expertly turned and unleashed a curling strike from the edge of the box. The ball sailed past the outstretched hands of the Ebedei goalkeeper and nestled into the top corner, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Reflecting on his match-winning goal, Arierhi said, “I just knew I had to make something happen. The moment the ball left my foot, I felt it was going in. I’m glad I could help the team reach the final again.”
The second half saw FC Ebedei mounting pressure in search of an equalizer, but Beyond Limits’ defense remained steadfast. The defending champions absorbed the pressure and thwarted Ebedei’s attacks, ensuring their slim lead remained intact.
The match took a tense turn in the 90th minute when Arierhi was forced off the field after suffering a knock. His exit added to the drama, but Beyond Limits managed to hold on for the win.
With this victory, Beyond Limits awaits the winner of the other semi-final between ASVO and 3SC. As the defending champions, they are now just one win away from retaining their title and continuing their dominance in the competition.
