Galatasaray of Turkey striker, Henry Onyekuru has promised to give his best performance for the Super Eagles if he is called upon to play against South Africa, sports247.ng reports.
The former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium attacker is happy with his inclusion in the Eagles’ main list for next Saturday’s game, and wants to use it as another opportunity to show his mettle.
Onyekuru also commiserated with Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo, whose injury paved the way for him to step up from the stand-by list into the main squad.
Onyekuru, who is on loan at Gala from Everton of England, said he is wishing Ighalo speedy recovery and noted how the former Watford striker has always been a huge motivation to him in the national team.
Onyekuru will now battle with Isaac Success, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and Kelechi Iheanacho to lead the Eagles’ attack against Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on November 17.
Onyekuru said he will work hard to justify his inclusion in the team and promised to do his best to ensure victory for Nigeria if he is selected to play in the upcoming decisive AFCON 2019 qualifier.
He added: “Always excited to be called up to the national team. It is a great honour for me.
“So gutted for the injury to Ighalo, he has been very instrumental to the team over the last few months and his impact will definitely be missed.
“I wish him quick recovery from the injury; and I promise to give my best if given the chance to play.”
