Heartland Queens’ defender, Oluomachi Sharon Onwere, has assured fans that the team will secure their first win of the season in the highly anticipated oriental derby against Abia Angels on Wednesday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Despite a challenging start to the 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership season, with two consecutive losses, Onwere remains optimistic about a turnaround. She emphasized the team’s determination to claim all three points in the clash and build momentum for the rest of the season.
“It’s a derby, and it won’t be easy, but nothing short of a win will satisfy us,” Onwere stated. “We fought hard against Edo Queens, and if we replicate that energy, victory will be ours. The team spirit is high, and we’re ready to give it our all.”
Reflecting on last season’s dominance over Abia Angels, Onwere expressed confidence in maintaining that standard despite player transitions between the teams. She also reaffirmed Heartland Queens’ ambition to secure a spot in the Super Six and contend for the league title.
“The league is a marathon, and while we’ve dropped six points, it’s far from over. Winning our home games and picking up crucial points on the road will see us through to the Super Six,” she added.
Heartland Queens are eager to kickstart their campaign with a victory and make a strong statement in the ongoing season
