The Nigerian international, Paul Onuachu took his tally to 12 goals for the season after bagging a brace in Genk’s 5-1 rout of Cercle Brugge.
Paul Onuachu continued his goal-scoring form for Genk in the Belgian Pro League, netting twice as Genk saw off host Cercle Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
The lanky striker opened the scoring under ten minutes after being assisted by Junya Ito as Genk raced to a four-goal lead in the first half. Onuachu got his second in the 38th minute.
Brugge pulled one back shortly after the restart through Dino Hotić but Théo Bongonda’s strike in the 71st minute restored Genk’s four-goal lead.
Onuachu was replaced by his international teammate Cyriel Dessers with 13 minutes left on the clock.
Final score Cercle Brugge 1-5 Genk.
Onuachu’s double sees him move to 12 goals for the season in just 13 games, surpassing his last season’s total of 10 goals in 20 games.
The win moves Genk top of the Belgium league with 28 points from 14 games having played a game more ahead of their nearest rivals, Club Brugge and Beershot who are both second and third respectively.
