Onojuwejvo, Nzeakor Crash Out As Nigeria Poor Outing Continues In Lima

Nigeria poor showing at the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championship in Lima on Thursday as the duo of Ella Onojuwejvo and Preciuos Nzeakor crashed out of their respective events, Sports 247 reports.

It was another medal-less outing on Day 3 for Nigeria in the competition, after Ella Onojuwejvo finished 5th in the final of the Women 400 meter final.

The quarter miler, who was at the 2024 Paris Olympics gave it her best shot in the race but failed to finish strong after a promising start, returning a time of 52.61s but it wasn’t enough to give Nigeria her first medal at the championship Lima as
Lurdes Gloria Manuel coasted home with the gold medal in a time of 51.29s ahead of Dianna Proctor of Great Britain who returned a personal best time 51.98s while America’s Zaya Akins settled for the bronze in a of 52.00s.

After three days of intense action at the competition, Nigeria is yet to win any medal as Ella became the third Nigeria that failed to finish on the podium after making it to the final in their event.

Furthermore, the chances of finishing with a medal were reduced earlier on Thursday as Precious Nzeakor failed to qualify for the 200 meter Semi final, finishing 4th in heat with a of 24.75s (-0.9) and crashing out of the event.

The World U20 Athletics Championship continues on Friday and will end on 31st. August 2024
