Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has faulted his exclusion from the Super Eagles’ list of invitees for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa and friendly with Uganda.
Although Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr stated on Tuesday that Onazi was left out on account of fitness issues, the battling player insists he is in good physical condition and will prove it with top form at his club.
Despite Rohr’s attempt to downplay the matter and provide an escape route, Onazi is not taking kindly his exclusion from the Eagles’ list, as the ex-SS Lazio of Italy star believes there is a gang-up against him.
Onazi has also taken his mind as far back to the 2018 World Cup to buttress his allegations of a conspiracy against him in the Eagles, as he hinted that ‘some people’ stopped him from playing at the World Cup.
There had been speculation all along about a serious fall out between Onazi and Eagles’ captain, John Mikel Obi at the World Cup, as both players appeared to disagree after Nigeria’s opening loss to Croatia.
Although team officials and Rohr continue refuting the story till the next moment, the latest comments by Onazi would go a long way towards confirming that, indeed, all is not well between him and Mikel.
It would also be noted that Onazi put a lie to any fitness issues last weekend, as he excelled for Trabzonspor in a 1-1 draw against Antalyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
He went on to garner lots of rave reviews for his performance at the Antalya Stadyumu on Saturday, and the 25-year-old star is now talking about doing even better to prove his ‘enemies’ wrong.
”I’ll show my quality and talents to those who didn’t give me the chance to play in the World Cup,” Onazi declared.
