Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi is set to spend at least six months out with injury, which could rule him out from further action this season.
Sports247.ng gathered as much from information made available by his Turkish Super Lig club, which disclosed that the Super Eagles star went for surgery on Monday, after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in Sunday’s game against Caykur Rizespor.
Onazi was stretchered off after just 32 minutes of action, and may end up missing the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in June.
This comes after Trabzonspor disclosed the extent of Oanzi’s injury and noted that he could be out of action for at least half of the coming year.
Onazi had to be substituted in the 32nd minute due to the injury and is set to undergo an operation in the coming hours.
Trabzonspor president, Ahmet Ağaoğlu visited Onazi in the hospital to encourage the former SS Lazio of Italy star before surgery on Monday.
Sadly, Ağaoğlu admitted that the operation could mean the 25-year-old player could be out for the season and might miss AFCON 2019.
The Trabzon-based club’s supremo also admitted it is huge blow for the club, as Onazi has started all the matches in the league except the trip to Kayserispor, which he missed as a result of accumulated bookings.
Ağaoğlu lamented: ”Unfortunately Onazi suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. His season may well be over.”
