Trabzonspor of Turkey midfiedler, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi has admitted he faced fitness issues during his recent invitations to the Super Eagles’ camp, but insists he has overcome the battle.
Onazi, who was left out of the Eagles’ last two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, disclosed that he was having problems with his Achilles tendon, but says he is always ready to give 120% effort with the Nigerian team, sports247.ng reports.
Onazi has since shaken off another bout with injury, as he return stronger to play a key part of Trabzonspor’s good run since September.
The team now sit 7th in the Turkish Super Lig table and Onazi says he wants another chance to replicate his club form with the Eagles.
He admitted that his performance against Seychelles, his first and omnly outing for Nigeria after the World Cup was not good enough.
Onazi put it down to his battle with fitness issues, but insists he is back to his best form, as seen in his displays at Trabzonspor.
He acquisced: “It was a tough time I must admit, but despite all the criticisms I remain committed to playing for my country.
“Whenever I go out there to play I give 120%, but unfortunately my achilles tendon problems slowed me down.
“Now things are looking up again for me at club level, I hope to keep giving my best to my country as well.”
