Omosebi Babatunde Bags Brace as Etoile de l’Est Qualify for Promotion Playoff

Former Immaculate FC of Nigeria striker, Omosebi Babatunde, was the star of the show on Sunday, April 6, 2025, as he netted a brace to help Etoile de l’Est FC cruise to a 7-1 demolition of Arpha FC in their final match of the 2024/2025 Ferwafa Men’s Second Division regular season.

The Week-24 clash, played at Etoile de l’Est’s home ground, marked the end of the regular season and sealed their place at the top of Group A with 55 points—guaranteeing them automatic qualification for the highly anticipated promotion playoff.

Babatunde, who joined the Rwandan side in the January transfer window from Inter Lagos FC on loan, opened scoring early in the first half and added a second in the 68th minute to take his tally to six goals and five assists in just ten league appearances.

“I’m delighted we made it to the promotion playoff,” said the 24-year-old Nigerian forward in a post-match interview. “I will give my all during the playoff to ensure we gain promotion because this was the reason I signed for this great club: to take them back to the top where we belong.”

Etoile de l’Est’s emphatic win over Arpha FC was a clear statement of intent ahead of the playoff round, as the club eyes a return to Rwanda’s top-flight football next season. With Babatunde in fine form, their chances of securing promotion look brighter than ever
