The 2019 edition of the annual Ijakadi day football and other sporting competitions will start in Offa on Sunday, December 1.
Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Ayoo Olopon and Ijakadi fight are the competitions lined up for this year’s edition in the ancient town of Offa.
Ijakadi day celebration gives Offa sons and daughters the opportunity to witness the tradition of the community known as the home of “Sweet Potato”.
In the football category which is tagged as the Inter Ward championship, six teams will participate in the 2019 edition in which they have been divided into two groups.
Group A is made up of Balogun, Essa and Shawo, while Group B comprises of Ojomu, Asalofa and Igbodun.
Azeez Omoluabi who is the coordinator of the football category stated that preparation is in top gear to make this year’s edition a success.
“This is our culture and heritage and we are ready to make this year’s edition the best so far. The chairman of Sports committee Prince Ajibade has done many things to make sure that we succeed,” Omoluabi explained.
Ijakadi football competition is being sponsored by respected Engineer Adeyemi Balogun.
Meanwhile, only indigenous players from Offa are allowed to take part in the 2019 Ijakadi Inter Ward football competition and all games will be played at the Oloffa Township Stadium.
