Omeruo Reveals Why He Did Not Succeed At Chelsea

Leganes and Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo has opened up on his unsuccessful spell at Chelsea.

Omeruo signed with the Premier League club in 2012 as an 18-year-old after impressing at youth tournaments for Nigeria.

He left Chelsea permanently in 2019 without making a single appearance for the club having spent all his time out on loan.

“I think it’s quite difficult (to play for the first team), mostly because Chelsea is a massive club, who have the finance to buy the best players,” Omeruo said on the difficulties of breaking into the first team at the English club.

“And I think from a market strategy it makes more sense to buy a player from Juventus, who has been hyped.

“But, sometimes it’s not about the quality like I have been consistent with the National team since 2013, which means I must be doing something good.

“A lot of players, who go on loan are playing and doing well. They (Chelsea) have the money and capacity to buy the best players in Real Madrid or somewhere, and most times this makes it difficult for the young players to feature.”

The Nigerian international has found a permanent home in Leganes and he is starring for the club as they push for promotion to La Liga.
