Former D’Tigers captain Olumide Oyedeji has launched a basketball talent haunt program titled The Generation Next Basketball Showcase as he searches for the next Basketball generation in Lagos.
Oyedeji who has been concerned about contributing his quota towards building basketball in Nigeria launched the next generation championship which commenced Saturday 17th September in three courts across the Lagos States.
According to the organizers, it will feature over three hundred kids aged 17 from basketball academies within Lagos state. The organizers also added that the program is geared towards making basketball a top choice for the youth of the state.
Oyedeji Speaking to pressmen at the launch of the program claims this is a partway of developing the children mentally, psychologically, emotionally, and intellectually.
“Showcase is to develop youth basketball. It’s to allow the young ones to find their paths. To give them a part way, to develop them mentally psychologically emotionally, and intellectually. It’s also to give them mentorship and get them ready for the next level.
“As the name suggests, generation next. Who is the generation next? They are the generation next. They are the ones. They are the future. So we are trying to groom them, develop them, and give them the opportunity”
The organizing team further explained that players who excel in the competition are expected to last for sixteen weeks and will be rewarded with scholarships among other things.
