SHOOTING Stars Sports Club (3SC) put up a superlative performance yesterday to go down in history as the only club side to win the Olubadan cup trophy for a record three times, just as MOCDIM FC won third place without kicking the ball.
The Oluyole Warriors defeated hard-fighting OGBOMOSO UTD 2-0 in a racy, epic final match that climaxed football’s Royal Rumble championship for the year.
The eventful and befitting grand-finale, which capped Ibadan Football Association’s activities for the pandemic -affected year also witnessed an electrifying and wonderful dance performance by David Abraham’s Exquisite Dancers.
After a lusterless 1-1 abandoned Semi-final showing against VIA ACADEMY, the Governor Dapo Abiodun Pre-season champions got into the game against OGBOMOSO UTD on a high note.
With accurate interchange of passes and purposeful dribble runs, the former African champions tormented OGBOMOSO UTD through OpeOluwa Olufemi, Elum Henry, and Abbey Benson.
The youthful and ambitious OGBOMOSO boys resisted fiercely but the superior fire-power of the Ibadan Warlords’ overwhelmed the visitors as Abbey Benson slotted in the first goal.
Rather than be deterred by this goal, the Hon. Wole kanle lads were fired up by the ambition of being the first team from outside Ibadanland to reach finals of olubadan cup upped its game and confronted the 3SC with tailored passes and occasional shots at goal stopped by Laude Okanlawon of 3SC.
After containing the OGBOMOSO boys for some time, Elum Henry scored the second goal for the 3SC to give them an edge over the fire-spitting boys from OGBOMOSO.
At the end of the exciting encounter, medals and cheques were presented to the third place, second and the champions, 3SC by Hon. Gbenga Adewusi chairman Oyo State Sports Council, Mr. Kehinde Ojelowo, Secretary, OYSFA, Hon. Fagade while the chairman of IFA, Barr. Rotimi Alli presented the Trophy to 3SC captain and Team Manager Dimeji Lawal.
