Football’s “Royal Rumble ” Olubadan Cup Competition kicks off this afternoon without the usual razzmatazz associated with the championship in times past.
Organizers of the competition introduced 52 years ago are abiding by the regulations of the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 which forbids spectators from thronging the stadium to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
However, the foremost soccer body which was established in 1937 and headed by Barr. Rotimi Alli has put in place structures to ensure that soccer fans all over the world are not denied of the thrills and excitement synonymous with the Royal soccer tournament.
Matches of the competition would be Streamed Live on Twitter for spectators to catch the fun. This is unprecedented in Nigerian football!
To further add glamour to the championship, there would be Pre and Post-match interviews of Coaches and captains of participating teams before the kick-off and right after the matches.
In line with the Royal Rumble tradition, the competition is on a knockout basis from start to finish which lends credence to the fact that many of the encounters may end in a penalty shootout as all teams would put in their best to survive.
This afternoon, DIAMOND FC clashes with former Barcelona star Gbenga Okunnowo’s LIBERTY ALL-STARS at 2pm; just as MOCDIM FC, trade tackles with KAC FC. MOCDIM is an arm of defending champions, OKE-ADO FC.
MOCDIM OKE-ADO UTD won the trophy in 2013 when it handed out a shocking defeat to Ibadan soccer lords, 3SC.
Tomorrow, Sunday, YK ABASS FC engages AKINYELE LCDA at 2 pm; even as SWANLUX FC confronts SOCCER AMBASSADORS (TEAM A) at 4pm.
