Italy-based former defender, Matthew Olorunleke has confessed that he might consider taking up a coaching job in Nigeria if a concrete offer comes his way, sports247.ng reports.
Although he initially declared that he is not thinking of any coaching job for now, as he wants to concentrate on hunting hidden talents, the former AC Regianna of Italy stopper and gaffer confessed that he could be tempted to stage a return to the dug out.
The player-turned-coach, who was born in Gusau but grew up in Ojo area of Lagos State, where he was fondly called ‘Leke,’ added that his passion for now is on youth development.
“I am not tied to any club for now because I am concentrating on my Nigerian project,” the dark-skinned coach-cum-scout told sports247.ng on telephone.
“I am happy with what we are doing with my scouting company, Abigol Football Management And Coaching, which has held a number of events in Lagos within recent months.
“Our primary goal is to get someone better than us and see them play for Nigeria. I am happy for how Churchill Oliseh produced me, and I also want to touch the next generation of Nigerians.”
However, Olorunleke, who played for nine different clubs in Italy, until he hung his boots in 2011 and became an assistant coach under Ivano Vaccondio at Bagnolese, did not rule out the possibility of his return to the gaffer’s seat sometime in the future.
“Football is dynamic, so I won’t rule out the possibility of me returning to full-time coaching. I may also consider an offer from Nigeria if they want to recognise me,” said Olorunleke.
He further disclosed that, though he is based fully in Europe, he has travelled home to Nigeria more frequently of recent because he is involved with several youth development projects in Lagos.
