Former Super Eagles captain and head coach, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh has added his opinion and words against the gender issue surrounding South African middle distance runner, Caster Semenya.
With a number of world sports star speaking out in support of Semenya and scolding international athletics authorities for picking on her, Oliseh is not one to shy away from supporting a female African.
Sports247.ng can report that Oliseh has gone public with his views, as he reckons Semenya is being victimised, and urged other Africans to rise in support of the South African athlete.
Oliseh took to social media to reveal his view, after Semenya’s appeal against a regulation restricting testosterone levels in female runners began on Monday.
Before the hearing, Semenya’s lawyers and Athletics South Africa (ASA) accused the IAAF of breaching confidentiality regulations by releasing a list of five expert witnesses who will testify on its behalf.
The 28-year-old Olympics 800m champion is seeking to overturn the regulation at Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but IAAF president, Lord Sebastian Coe is backing the rule.
Coe insists the regulation would “protect the sanctity of fair and open competition” in athletics as well as sport in general.
However, Oliseh argued: “African legends Must speak out in support of Caster Semenya. This is unacceptable! She is born female.
“Forcing her w/naturally high testosterone to give up ownership of her body, take drugs to compete is dangerous & discriminatory. I stand behind her 100%.”
