Former Nigerian international Olisa Onuchukwu has brushed off the opposition’s comments ahead of the Super Eagles’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers, calling them nothing more than “pre-match gimmicks.” The ex-footballer believes that the outcome of the match will be decided on the pitch, not through words.
“This is what is called a pre-match gimmick. They cannot go back home and remain silent. No! But it doesn’t pose a challenge or a risk to us,” Onuchukwu stated. “What we need to do is come together, let our boys get onto the pitch, get to work, and move Nigeria to the World Cup.”

He maintained that the opposition’s boasts and threats do not concern him, as football ultimately comes down to performance on matchday. “I am not bothered or perturbed by all their talk. At the end of the day, it’s always 11 men on the pitch, nothing more than that,” he added.
Olisa Onuchukwu, who has transitioned into football administration,has represented Nigeria at various age-grade levels during his playing career, eventually earning a place in the Super Eagles squad.
After retiring from active play, Onuchukwu took on administrative roles within Nigerian football. He serves as the Sporting Director and CEO of Nnewi United Football Club. Additionally, he has held the position of National Coordinator for the Nigeria National League (NNL).
With the Super Eagles set for crucial fixtures, Onuchukwu’s words reflect a mentality of focus and determination, urging the team to block out distractions and concentrate on securing victory.
