Okowa: It’s Time To Harvest Sports Festival Medals

Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has declared that he is sure of a massive impact at the National Sports Festival, because he believes it is time for the state to harvest medals.

With the festival scheduled to begin officially this Thursday in Abuja, the former senator said he is sure Delta State will return top of the table at the end of all events.

With his vision to excel looking bold, Okowa went on to give a massive incentive for the contingent, as he promised N1m for every gold won.

Okowa made the promise at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, while addressing the state’s contingent before their departure for Abuja.

Okowa said: “You have worked very hard in the last three weeks, it’s time to harvest the medals.

“You are Team Delta, remember that there is no team that will be like Team Delta and I believe your coaches have been doing very well.

“For every gold, you will get N1m, so, if you are not prepared for gold, work harder to get gold.

“For every silver medalist there’s N500, 000 while bronze medalists will get N250, 000.”

While the Government House chaplain, Venerable Charles Osemenem used a short sermon to charge the team to rely on God, Delta State Sports Commission chairman, Tonobok Okowa said they must prove their mettle at Abuja 2018.

While presenting the team to the governor, the commission boss said: “We are the defending champions and by the grace of God, we will bring back the trophy.

“We are prepared, the team have been in camp for the past three weeks, we have world champions among us and we are going to Abuja 2018 not only as champions but, to come back as champions.”
