Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder, Austin Azuka Okocha has revealed that Samuel Osei Kuffor was the most difficult defender he faced during his playing career.
Both African legends played together in Germany with Okocha representing Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played 90 Bundesliga matches, scoring 16 goals while the Ghanaian legend Kuffour defended the colours of Bayern Munich, where he won six Bundesliga titles.
On his most difficult defender he played against, the two-time BBC Africa Player of the year said: “I would say that my African brothers were the ones.
“We have the same mentality and thought the same way.
“Osei Kuffour was the toughest of them all. There was a game that he kept following and marking me and I asked him, ‘O boy, take it easy, look at the way you are breathing down on my neck’ and he replied that ‘sorry I got work to do’.
The Kumasi-born defender won the UEFA champions league with Bayern Munich in 2001 and also the FIFA U17 World Cup in 1991.
