Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association and an executive member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has called on all football lovers in the state and beyond to come out in their thousands to support the two Nigerian teams participating in these prestigious tournaments.
“We are always a good host, and we are happy to have CAF approving our stadium to host both the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Champions League,” said Majekodunmi in a statement encouraging fans to fill the stadium.
“Elkanemi Warriors and Remo Stars are representing Nigeria, and they need our full support. This is not just about the teams, but about our state and our country.”
This weekend’s fixtures will see Elkanemi Warriors take on Dadje FC in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie on Saturday. The match is expected to be a tough encounter, with Elkanemi Warriors aiming to secure a significant advantage before the return leg.
On Sunday, the focus will shift to the CAF Champions League, where Remo Stars will face off against the formidable ASFAR of Morocco. The match promises to be an intense battle, as Remo Stars seek to make a strong impression in their continental campaign.
Both games are not only crucial for the teams involved but also for Ogun State, which is looking to solidify its reputation as a prime destination for international sporting events. The successful hosting of these matches could pave the way for more CAF competitions to be held in the state in the future.
Majekodunmi’s call to action underscores the importance of community support in such high-stakes games. “I want to assure everyone that Ogun State is ready, and we are behind our teams all the way,” he added. As the state braces for an exciting football weekend, all eyes will be on Ikenne to see how these Nigerian teams perform on home soil.
