The Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, has emphasized the commitment of Governor Abiodun’s administration to ensuring safe and reliable public transportation for commuters in the state.
Speaking to journalists in his Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta office, Dairo disclosed that measures are being implemented for a comprehensive assessment of the Bus Mass Transit (BMT) fleet. This initiative aims to uphold safety standards, with unfit vehicles set to be removed from operation.
He further highlighted the government’s dedication to vehicle maintenance by operators, stating that the Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) department has been tasked with enforcing strict compliance with roadworthiness guidelines to mitigate operational risks.
Dairo added that any BMT vehicle failing the certification test at the VIS test station would be deemed non-roadworthy.
To enhance the public transportation system, the commissioner revealed plans to replace aging buses with new ones maintained in line with global standards, ensuring commuter safety and comfort.
“The safety and well-being of our people remain a top priority. We are taking decisive steps to ensure that public transportation in Ogun State adheres to the highest standards,” Dairo assured.
