At the Ogun State Football Association’s Annual General Congress held on December 17, 2024, at Egba Inner Circle Hall, the Chairman of the Ogun State FA, Alhaji Gani Majekodunmi, called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to approve the renovation of the historic Muda Lawal Stadium and allocate land for the FIFA Goal Project
Majekodunmi emphasized that these initiatives, sponsored by FIFA, would significantly enhance football development in the state.
The FIFA Goal Project, a global initiative to develop football infrastructure, aims to deliver modern stadium facilities, training grounds, and a dedicated FA administrative office.
“The renovation of Muda Lawal Stadium and the establishment of the FIFA Goal Project will bring Ogun State’s football infrastructure to international standards.
We call on Governor Abiodun to support this project, which will benefit our youths, clubs, and overall football growth,” Majekodunmi stated during his address.
The Muda Lawal Stadium, located in Abeokuta, has long served as a hub for local football activities but has seen years of neglect and requires significant upgrades to meet modern standards.
Majekodunmi highlighted the importance of such improvements, pointing out that better facilities would attract national and international competitions while nurturing local football talent.
Stakeholders at the congress, including representatives of clubs, referees, and coaches, echoed the Chairman’s call, stressing that infrastructure is key to Ogun State’s football advancement.
The proposed FIFA Goal Project, once approved and implemented, would include the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium, training facilities, and administrative offices for the Ogun FA, all funded through FIFA’s infrastructure development initiative.
Governor Abiodun’s approval is now eagerly awaited, as the project has the potential to reposition Ogun State as a football powerhouse and further promote youth engagement through sports.
