Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel midfielder, John Ugochukwu Ogu has come out to dedicate Tuesday’s 3-2 away victory of the Super Eagles to all Nigerian soccer fans who stood by the team, sports247.ng reports.
Ogu, who eventually got off the Eagles bench to feature as a second half substitute during the game played in Sfax, Tunisia said he was glad to get back into action for Nigeria, but stressed that the bigger joy is that the team made their fans happy.
Before Tuesday’s game at Stade Taïeb Mhiri, Ogu did captain the Eagles in an exhibition match against Liberia last month, but his only previous competitive game for the Eagles was against Algeria in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
On Tuesday, Ogu finally played his first competitive game for the team in two years after replacing Oghenekaro Etebo in the 75th minute of the tie in Sfax, after which he thanked Nigerians fans for their support.
The former Academica de Coimbra of Portugal towering left-footer also gave kudos to the Eagles for holding their own, when the Libyans fought back from 2-0 down to level scores.
He further said they have now been motivated to beat South Africa away as well in their next match of the Cameroon 2019 qualifiers.
Ogu stated on Twitter: ”I’m really proud of this boys. Not easy to play in such a game after the win on Saturday.
“So proud to have come out with the Win. This win is for our fans. Now we focus on the next objective against South Africa.”
