The RaiPlay episode of ‘offside racism’ continues as they journey into the sphere of Italian youth football with spotlight on Nigeria prodigy budding Udinese’s central defender in Samuel Nwachukwu as the war against racism rages on.
As revealed, “Offside Racism” aims to make people reflect on racism and more broad on all types of discrimination present in football and in all other areas of life as it does so by intertwining the sporting life and the daily life of a young footballer who plays in a youth team of a club in the Serie A TIM 2022/2023.
A young man like many others who, in addition to his ability in the game, bears witness with his own behavior to the values of sport, on and off the pitch.
Born in Udine to a Nigerian father and Haitian mother, Samuel’s story begins when, still a child, his uncle takes him on a soccer field for the first time. A few shots at the ball are enough to make him understand that that ball would become the center of his world. From that moment Samuel has one goal: to become a champion! To achieve this, he uses two teachings imparted by his parents: commitment and discipline.
This is how Samuel’s sporting life began, but he risked stopping very soon due to a serious injury, just when the boy arrived in the locker room of an important team like Udinese. But Samuel doesn’t give up and finds a second family in the team capable of making him overcome the difficult moment and return to the field more motivated than before.
A demonstration of the values that football transmits to those who play it, values such as solidarity and mutual assistance, teachings that Samuel has experienced firsthand on and off the pitch, together with respect for his teammates and especially his opponents.
An unexpected task that the program highlights and rewards at the end of each episode with the delivery to the young protagonist of the shirt with the words “Keep Racism Out” delivered by a champion of the first team of his club with Gerard Delofeu presenting the young Samuel is shirt.
