Empoli have announced the signing of Nigerian full-back Tyronne Ebuehi from Benfica for an undisclosed fee, reports Sports247. He inks a three-year contract with the Gli Azzurri until June 2025.
The 26-year-old joins the Serie A side on a permanent basis having spent the last two seasons on loan at FC Twente and Venezia respectively.
“Empoli Football Club announces that it has definitively acquired the right to the sports performances of Tyronne Ebuehi from Sport Lisboa e Benfica; the footballer has signed a contract until 30 June 2025,” the club released on its official website.
Ebuehi started his career with Dutch club ADO Den Haag in 2014. He joined Benfica in 2018, but he has left the Portuguese giants without ever playing for the first team, in part because of injuries.
The right-back made 19 Serie A appearances for Venezia last term but was unable to help the club avoid relegation as they finished bottom of the league table. Empoli finished in 14th place.
Born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian father and a Dutch mother, Ebuehi pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria and made his senior debut in 2017. He was called up to the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Nations Cup in Cameroon where he made one appearance.
