In a recent interview with Sports247, the President of the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation, Chief Paul Maduakor, expressed confidence in the team’s abilities. He boldly stated, “We are not afraid of any team, we know what we are made of.”
The Special Eagles have a commendable track record, having attended the tournament more times than any other country. Their journey has seen a steady progression, from not advancing past the group stages to clinching third place and even making it to the finals where they won bronze medals.
This year, the team is aiming for gold. “This time around, we are sure that every other country, too, is afraid of us,” Maduakor said. With the right preparations and the anticipated support from corporate sponsors and the government, the Special Eagles are optimistic about their chances of winning the trophy.
But the team’s ambitions don’t stop there. They also have their sights set on the World Cup slated for Morocco in 2026. As Maduakor put it, “We know that we are capable of it.”
As the Special Eagles prepare to take flight, the world watches in anticipation. Will this be the year they bring home the coveted trophy? Only time will tell.
