Fast-rising sprinter, Divine Oduduru at the weekend emerged most valuable athlete at this year’s Big 12 Indoor Championship in Lubbock, Texas, USA.
Sports247.ng gathered that the Delta State-born athlete was the unanimous candidate for the gong, following his remarkable double in the 60m and 200m events of the series.
Oduduru ended as the cynosure of all eyes at the competition on Saturday, as he ran a personal best 20.08secs in the 200m.
It is the best ever at the Big 12 Championship, Texas Tech and Sports Performance Centre as well as fastest indoor time in the world and second fastest in the history of USA’s collegiate athletics.
Earlier, Oduduru ran a career best in the 60m, as the Africa Senior Track & Field Championship silver medalist ran a record time of 6.52 seconds and set a new mark for Texas Tech.
His new personal best overrides an earlier mark also this month, when he ran 6.56secs to equal the record set by his teammate, Alex Hudson.
Oduduru claimed the top performer award with 20 points, while his team, Texas Tech Men’s Track & Field, emerged overall champion with 70 points their most dominant victory in history.
