FC Zurich of Switzerland striker, Stephen Odey has sent a hearty thank you message to his teammates and club fans for helping him notch a goal on his birthday, sports247.ng reports.
Although Odey could not lead the team to victory, he said it was a delight for him to score on his birthday, as he labelled it double celebration for him, while also admitting it was made possible by God.
The former Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministry (MFM) FC of Lagos lad said he was delighted to mark his birthday with a goal in Zurich’s 2-1 loss against Dynamo Dresden of Germany.
As Odey turned 21 on Tuesday, he gave himself the perfect birthday gift by opening scoring for his side after just seven minutes into the match.
A second-half rally saw Dynamo equalize through Moussa None on 51 minutes before Philip Heise completed the comeback from the penalty spot in the 78th minute to ensure victory for the East German side.
The goal will come as a morale booster for Odey who netted 13 goals across all competitions in the first half of the season for Zürich.
He will aim for more thrills and high points with the team, as they step up preparations ahead of the season’s second stanza kick-off next month.
Odey posted his thoughts on social media: “On this special day of mine, I just want to thank God for the priceless gift of life that he has given me and for the wonderful people he has put in my life.
“I pray that He continue to bless me throughout the year HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME 🎂. To @fc_zuerich I say a BIG THANK YOU.”
