Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club of Port Harcourt coach, Ogoh Odaudu has predicted that the team will do well at the upcoming FIBA Africa Zone 3 Championship, where he says they will make Nigeria proud.
Although The Hoopers are rated minors back home and largely expected to falter at the zonal competition, sports247.ng can report that Odaudu is talking tough ahead of the healthy hostilities that would lead to a continental ticket.
After a seven-year absence on the continent, The Hoopers will make a return as one of Nigeria’s representatives alongside Civil Defenders of Abuja.
The two-time league champions, who Police Baton in the NBBF abridged league in Port Harcourt, last played in the continent in 2011 in Morocco.
However, despite all odds staked against them, Odaudu insists Rivers Hoopers will get a good outing in Cotonou next month.
Odaudu, who who led the team to consecutive continental outings, said he is happy that they are back to international reckoning and believes they will do well in Cotonou to return to the full continental terrain.
He added: “It is always a great feeling going to play on the continent not just because you are going to travel out.
“You are going to meet teams who are from different countries and who play against teams who have different style of play.
“It’s a great experience and we are looking forward to it. We are going to put in a lot of work and put up a good performance when we get there.”
