Former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles gaffer, John Sam Obuh has called on the Super Eagles not to repeat the debacle that befell them in their 2-0 matchday1 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification loss to South Africa in Uyo, reports Sports247.ng.
Group E leaders Nigeria have a tough task to navigate in the matchday5 against Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the FNB Stadium on November 17.
Obuh while speaking to Sports247.ng advised coach Gernot Rohr not to gamble with the game, stressing that the Super Eagles need to redeem themselves against South Africa.
“There has been pressure from some quarters to include new players in the Super Eagles team for the game against South Africa due to injuries sustained by key players in the senior national squad.”
“I don’t think that will be necessary at this stage because we are in a desperate time. Desperate times requires desperate measures. Coach Gernot Rohr should stick with the materials at his disposal. The national team is not a testing ground for new players. Established and quality players should make up the senior national team set up,” Obuh observed in a chat with Sports247.ng.
“The Super Eagles lost 2-0 to South Africa in Uyo. It was a bitter pill to swallow. I don’t think we can afford a repeat of such in Johannesburg with the calibre of players we have at our disposal. This is the time for the boys to redeem themselves having lost the first leg to Bafana Bafana.”
Nigeria are on top of the group with nine points, one ahead of second placed South Africa. Libya have four points in third place while Seychelles have picked just one point from four games.
