This is according to Obesere’s special consultant, Akeem Babs,  showbiz / Entertainment Consultant, who disclosed in an extensive interview with Sports247 that it was a battle against diverse views and race against time to stage the historic occasion on January 28th, as they wanted a befitting event worthy of the celebrant’s iconic status.

Maps recalled with glee, “When you are dealing with a public figure, you can expect different opinions and different ideas. Some may doubt whether it would be possible. But, when you stand on your point and you know what you want, you will succeed. Once you ask Alhaji for the freedom to prove yourself, you will get it right, especially when you work with a good team.

“You don’t need to work with a crowd; just a few people who know what they want. Just stand firm, and you’ll be able to move forward. The most challenging thing was time constraint. We didn’t have enough time for planning. However, you will always get it right when you know what you are doing.”

Maps also spoke about the houses, land and money Obesere gave out to his band boys as well as a mosque he donated to his alma mater, Jubril Martins High School near Costain in Lagos and his launch of a charity foundation for education, with hundreds of expensive bags given out freely to students, all of which ran into billions of naira spent by the celebrant.

The consultant explained all rationale behind Obesere’s largesse, saying: “There is nothing that is too much to give the public.

He’s been singing for the past 40-something years, facing up and down challenges. When you now get to a mature stage at 60, you should just close your eyes and do the needful.

Whether it’s going to cost you a lot, all you are thinking of is how people will value what you have done for the society.

“You will find out that, at the end of the day, people will value whatever you have done for them. It’s not enough to give food that 5,000 people will eat and then go away, or you kill 100 cows.

When you do something valuable, people will still be talking about it many years after,” Maps pointed out.

He concluded with a view that Obesere’s efforts at making less privileged people happy and bringing infrastructure development to the community that produced him should be complemented by similar work from various levels of government in Lagos State.
