The recent return of former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins to top Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua has been described as a welcome development.
The 35-year-old Lagos born star is making his second spell to China where he had previously featured for Shanghai Shenhua and scored 19 goals in 40 appearances.
Speaking on the move, Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Prince Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, said he is optimistic that Martins fondly called ‘Obagoal’ will shake Chinese football once again with outstanding performances.
” Obafemi Martins is a player you can always rely on to deliver the goods at all times. He is a proven footballer and I am sure he will shake China again,” he remarked.
He was quick to recall that the two years injury suffered by Martins during his first spell with the team. Adding that the natural strength, resilience, discipline, and professionalism of the well-traveled player who stormed Europe as a 16 years old starry-eyed youngster will put him on good stead to justify his return to Chinese football.
” The two years absence of Martins from action due to injury, I can tell you, would ginger and inspire him to justify the confidence and faith the Chinese side have in him,” Adeboye, who also doubles as the Chairman of Lagos based amateur side, Smart City football club, added conclusively.
