Ekiti State National Youth Service Corps NYSC football team would begin their title defense this morning as they confront the Plateau NYSC football team in the opening game of NYSC DG’s Sports and Games Championship.
The five days event kicks off today at the football practice pitch of MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The defending champions had arrived in Abuja on Sunday evening and were ready to face their opponents, Plateau in the opening game.
A winner between both states would book a place in the semi-final of the football event.
Ekiti head coach, Kehinde Anjorin told Sports247 that he was confident that his team could defend the title won last year saying that the players are well motivated.
” My players are in high spirits and ready to defend the title won last year. They are well motivated and ready to make Ekiti proud once again. I know that every team wants to beat defending champions and we have also prepared to take the match as it comes. It is going to be difficult but it is also possible to go far in the tournament,” he said.
Anjorin also thanked their supporters back home and promised to do well in Abuja.
In other matches, Kano would face Taraba while Anambra battled Akwa Ibom in the last match of the day.
In preparation for the 2022 DG Cup, the Ekiti NYSC played two friendly matches, won one, and drew the other match.
